The purpose of this document is to provide an overview of ETAC, its facilities and the type of provision offered. ETAC is an independently operated institution that offers rehabilitation courses and activities to referred patients, as well as offering a clinical learning environment for students of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy.
The Articles of Association that govern the internal affairs of ETAC, together with the Operational Agreement that exists between Esbjerg Municipality, the Social Committee and ETAC, act as a starting point in describing the aims of ETAC and its fundamental guiding principles, nature of organisation, and resources.
Both ETAC's Articles of Association and the Operational Agreement have been drawn up in accordance with §104 of the law on social care provision.
Organisation
ETAC is an independent institution operating under the jurisdiction of Esbjerg Municipality and the Social Committee.
Overall authority resides in the Management Committee, whose membership is appointed by the Physically Disabled Association, end users of ETAC services and ETAC members of staff,
Central Aim
The key aim is to provide consistent quality physical training and activities to adult people who have significant, long-term impairment in function and who can benefit from our expertise, resources, and employee motivation. In this way, the Centre, through its activities, can enable a higher quality of life to be achieved in line with EU regulations on equal opportunities for the physically disabled as laid down in their resolutions, this resolution also forming the basis of Esbjerg Municipality's political stance on disability issues.
This aim is fulfilled through the provision of training and social activities delivered by occupational therapists, physiotherapists, occupational counsellors, and social and health assistants.
The objective is to deliver optimal support to each individual and enable them to utilise their potential to achieve a physically active and good quality of life, irrespective of physical disability.
Rehabilitation primarily takes place in groups. In an addition students have individual interventions.
The diagnostic reason for referral of patients can be principally categorised as follows
- Injuries incurred - either from traffic or other types of accidents
- Traumatic brain injury
- Apoplexy
- Multible sclerosis
- Neurological syndromes
- Parkinson's disease
- Paraplegia
- Diabetes
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Osteoarthritis
- Cancer/tumours
- Musculoskeletal related conditions
Practical arrangements for foreign students
Hours of work are on average around 30 hours per week, with typical start and end times being, respectively, 08:00 and 15:00.
End of working day times may however vary depending on, for example, possible overruns in time in the patient-team training sessions.
Foreign students share office space in common with home students.
Staff at ETAC do not wear uniforms and students wear their own clothes.
